    Dr Duncan Laurenson

    MBChB. (UCT) Postgraduate Diploma Addiction Care(UCT)

    Duncan has 15 years experience in addiction medicine. He works at a number of prominent Cape Town addiction clinics including Akeso Kenilworth Clinic, Stepping Stones and Ixande. Duncan also manages patients at an opiate substitution clinic at TBHIV, an NGO service organisation for NACOSA.  He is a member of the Service Quality Measures committee, an initiative of the South African Medical Research Council to measure quality of treatment in South African substance abuse treatment centres. He is also a member of InterRAI, a Canadian based outcomes measurement organisation.

    Duncan’s initial foray into medical software development was driven by the need to measure treatment outcomes in the addiction field. He started Recovery Outcomes, which used the first version of OutcomesIT software. It incorporates standardised assessment and outcomes measures, into a continuing care program, which provide monitoring and support to recovering addicts.

    Dr Eugene Allers

    Eugene is currently a psychiatrist in private practice. His interest in the management of private practice has seen him serve on many committees and boards and he has chaired the private practice interest group within SASOP, the board of directors of PsychMg and the SAMA specialist private practice committee for many years. He is a past president of the South African Society of Psychiatrists. Eugene is currently Editor of the PsychScience magazine.

    Dr Gerhard Grundling

    Gerhard has been in private practice since 1988 and is also a director of 6 companies, where his interests are focussed on strategic planning and analysis of future trends. He is deeply interested and involved in the mental health field and the South African healthcare industry as a whole. He is CEO of PHI, a market leader specialising in the management of psychiatric services and  which provides strategic planning and advisory services to a major part of the medical schemes market.

    Gerhard is a founding member and director of the Clinical Psychology Forum – South Africa. As MD of the Glynnview Multi Professional Practice he manages a group of 53 medical and paramedical professionals.

    Dr Robert Bothwell

    MBChB (Wits). MRCPysch (Newcastle-upon-Tyne)

    Before starting in private practice in 2007, Robert ran therapeutic and addiction units attached to the University of Cape Town and became Principle Psychiatrist at Valkenberg Hospital. Now based at Akeso Kenilworth Clinic, he works in General Adult and Addiction Psychiatry. At the start of his clinical career, Robert was involved in researching and providing training in the area of Cognitive Therapy. A focus on individual therapy has evolved into an interest in developing services that offer effective, integrated care and he collaborated with Duncan in developing the Recovery Outcomes program.
